Who we are
Dear Jesus is developed by Dmytro Vasin ("we", "us"). Contact: [email protected].
Definitions
"Service" means the Dear Jesus mobile application. "Personal Data" means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. Unless otherwise defined here, terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meaning as in our Terms of Use.
What data we collect
- An anonymous identifier — created automatically the first time you open the app (an anonymous sign-in with our backend, Supabase). It is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information. Older versions of the app used an anonymous device identifier (device_id) instead.
- The text of the messages you send in the conversation, together with the most recent earlier messages of that conversation — sent to generate a reply (see "Third parties" below).
- Basic details needed to run the Service — your device's time zone, the language you chose in the app, when you were last active, how many messages you have sent today, and whether you have reached the daily limit.
- A push notification token and your platform (iOS or Android) — only if you allow notifications.
- A record that a message may have indicated a crisis — only the time it happened, never the message itself (see "How we use this data").
- Usage analytics — how the app is used, for example whether a message was sent or a notification was opened. Analytics never include the text of your messages or of the replies. They are collected with Firebase Analytics (Google), which also automatically collects basic device and app information such as device model, operating system version, app version and approximate location (country or region). We have switched off the collection of advertising identifiers and ad personalization.
- Subscription information — if you subscribe: which plan you have, whether it is active or in a free trial, and when the current period ends. It comes from Google Play through RevenueCat. We do not see or store your payment card or Google account details; the store takes the payment. RevenueCat links your purchase to your anonymous identifier and may also receive basic technical information such as your IP address, platform and app version. We do not send it advertising identifiers.
How we use this data
- The anonymous identifier and message counter are used to enforce the daily limit on free messages.
- Message text and recent earlier messages are sent to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a reply in the conversation.
- Each message is also checked by Anthropic's AI for signs that you may be in a crisis. If it may be, the app shows a notice with a link to a helpline. We save only the time of that result, not the message, so that we do not send you a notification soon afterwards.
- Your time zone, language and last activity are used to send you notifications, if you allowed them, at a reasonable local time and in your language: a reminder that your daily limit has been reset, and a short note if you have not opened the app for a few days. The text of that note is written by AI without access to any of your messages.
- Subscription status and the end date of the current period are used to decide whether the daily message limit of free use applies to you.
- Usage analytics help us understand and improve the app.
